how therapy works
choosing a therapist
It can be difficult to know where to start, and how to get through all of the therapist jargon to see if this is really a person you can talk to and feel heard. I offer a free 15-20 minute phone consultation where we can talk a bit about how I work, and you can see if I will be a good fit for you.
giving it a try
There isn’t a good replacement for just trying it out. You may have some ideas about how therapy works, but the process can be very custom to what you are needing right now. Sometimes just learning some new techniques to deal with a stressful boss is all you need, other times you may feel ready to figure out why you keep making a choice that isn’t serving you well.
All problems feel easier if they feel shared, and while a therapist’s job is not to solve the problems for you, having a kind listening ear while you find your own solutions can make the burden seem lighter.
my philosophy of therapy
Carl Rogers is one of the core teachers of the model of therapy I use, and he believed that the relationship between the therapist and the client was the key factor in how change happens in therapy. Research has since confirmed this idea - that the ‘therapeutic alliance’ is the most predictive factor of therapeutic success. So, for me, when I meet a new client, my goal is always to find a way to create a positive connection and to truly understand their perspective and the context that they are living in. I hope to help clients find peace with what is in their life, and courage to change things for the better.
